OUR COURSE STRUCTURE

MODULE 1 - 31 classes

Traditional & Modern Drop In Seats - Rectangular & Oval Pull Over Seats - Rectangular & Oval Capped On Seats - Using Serpentine Springs - Traditional & Modern Footstools - Deep Buttoned Headboard

Module 1 is made up of 31 classes. It is suitable for complete beginners and also for those with some upholstery experience.

Mark will teach you a wide range of traditional and modern upholstery foundation skills from webbing, stitching, stuffing, deep buttoning and how to achieve a professional finish.

MODULE 2 - 48 classes


Traditional Dining Chair with Sprung Seat - Ottoman Box

Module 2 is made up of 48 classes. In this Module you build on what you have already learnt in Module 1.

Mark will firstly teach you how to reupholster a traditional dining chair with a sprung seat. You will be given step by step instructions from preparing the frame, tying in the double cone upholstery springs, applying the traditional stuffings to putting on the final covering fabric and braid.

Mark will then teach you how to make an ottoman box that is lined on the inside and outside. By the end of this course, you will know how to make your own ottoman box, starting with just wooden panels.

Module 2


In this Module you will learn more modern and traditional British upholstery techniques, building on what you have already learnt in Module 1.

Mark will first teach you how to reupholster a traditional dining chair with a sprung seat. You will be given step by step instructions from preparing the frame, tying in the springs, applying the traditional stuffings to putting on the final covering fabric and braid.

You will then learn how to make an ottoman box, starting with just the wooden panels. This will be lined on the inside and outside.

Vintage Module - Make a Chaise Longue

This Module, made up of 26 classes, was filmed in 2009.

Starting with just a wooden frame, Mark will take you through all the different stages of how to make an upholstered chaise longue - from fitting the springs and learning how to use traditional stuffings, to assembling the final chaise. You will learn mostly traditional, as well as some modern, techniques.

The Library is a handy set of courses to help you when you just need to recap a technique, such as tying a slip knot, blanket pleats and slip stitching.

There are also videos to introduce you to the upholstery tools and how to use them.
